About 24 hours after his arrest for domestic violence, Chad Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochoccinco, was cut from the Miami Dolphins. The 34-year-old wide receiver has not commented. He signed with the Dolphins two months ago following his release from the New England Patriots.
Just hours before Johnson was sacked, Dolphins coach Joe Philbin promised to “deal with” his arrest. "We're not going to waste time. ... We're all in this thing together. Everybody that sets foot in this building, we're all held to a high standard,” Philbin said.
Johnson was arrested Saturday for misdemeanor domestic battery after allegedly head butting his wife of 1 month, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada, during a heated argument inside a Smart Car parked outside their home. Police say the argument started when Lozada confronted Johnson about a receipt for condoms.
“She alleges he leaned over and head-butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead,” said Capt. Dale Engle.
Lozada ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911. She was treated at Westside Regional Hospital for a 3-inch cut on her forehead.
Johnson was arrested and taken to Broward County jail where he was held overnight. He was released Sunday afternoon after posting $2,500 bond. Johnson’s attorney, Adam Swickle, confirmed a judge also issued a no contact order that prevents Johnson from having any communication with Lozada.
Johnson and Lozada’s VH1 reality show Ev & Ocho is set to premiere on September 3.
