Eighties pop star Rick Springfield’s DUI Case Settled With Plea Deal

Singer Rick Springfield got off easy in his DUI case as he pleaded guilty to reckless driving in exchange his DUI charges were dropped.

Springfield was arrested on May 1st last year after police pulled him over on the Pacific Coast Highway. The arresting officer smelled alcohol and a blood alcohol test revealed that he was .10 a little over the legal limit of .08.

At the time of his arrest Springfield threatened to kill the arresting officer and his family after his Corvette Stingray was towed. But the threat didn’t seem to bear any weight in his case.

Speaking to the Ministry in May, LAPD spokesperson Steve Whitmore said, “Drunks say things all the time, and they say things that are ridiculous, notorious and vicious to cops. Our job is to take them off the street so they don’t hurt other people. We don’t take whatever they say seriously. It’s rare that we don’t get someone on a DUI that isn’t abusive.”

Country-singer Randy Travis, however, also threatened to kill police when he was arrested for DUI last and the officers on his case charged him with threatening police, which has a minimum penalty of 10 years jail.

As part of his plea bargain, Springfield will be on probation for three years and ordered to take a two-month traffic course.

This is an example of the benefits of having a skilled DUI attorney working on a case. They have the experience and knowledge of the courts necessary to stop a conviction, have charges reduced or get a more lenient sentence for their clients.
