NFL Week 15; Thursday Night Football
The San Francisco 49ers (6-8) shut down the running attack of the Seattle Seahawks (8-6) and limited Matt Hasselbeck to 220 yards passing to win 24-14.
Shaun Alexander found the endzone on a 3-yard run in the first quarter but the Seahawks couldn’t muster any kind of an offensive attack after his touchdown. Hasselbeck completed just 19 of his 35 pass attempts and was picked off twice in the game.
While Seattle had no offense, San Francisco wasn’t much better through the first three quarters of the game. The 49ers only offense in that period came from a 39-yard field goal from Joe Nedney.
Alex Smith finally got things going for the 49ers in the fourth quarter as he threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to cap off a 24-point run against Seattle. Smith hit Vernon Davis on an 8-yard touchdown pass and then found Frank Gore on a 20-yard toss to give the 49ers a 17-7 lead.
Smith finished the scoring for San Francisco with an 18-yard touchdown run with just under two minutes remaining in the game.
Seattle scored with 18 seconds remaining in the game when Hasselbeck found Jerramy Stevens on a 22-yard touchdown pass.
San Francisco’s balanced their 390 yards of total offense with 228 yards on the ground and 162 yards through the air. Gore rushed for 144 yards on the night and caught four passes for 34 yards.
The Seattle ground attack was limited to just 90 yards, 73 of those yards came from Alexander.
