UltraShort Oil & Gas ProShares DUG
According to the Wall Street Journal, Massachusetts is currently ground zero for the leveraged ETF controversy. The issue was first ignited by the St. Louis, Mo.-based financial firm Edward Jones, and the wildfire has spread to a number of other firms across the country, some of which are located in the Bay State. Massachusetts' government has also tried to shed some light on these risky instruments.
Another firm based in Massachusetts, LPL Investment Holdings, has prohibited the sale of leveraged ETFs that seek more than two times the long and short performance of their index. Massachusetts-based Fidelity Investments is the most recent firm to question the suitability of leveraged funds as long-term investments.
