Evelyn Lozada Files For Divorce From Chad Johnson, Says Marriage Is “Irretrievably Broken”

Evelyn Lozada is ending her 1 month marriage to Chad Johnson due to the NFL player’s recent domestic violence arrest. Saying their marriage is “irretrievably broken,” the reality star filed for divorce Tuesday in Florida.

"Given the recent events that have taken place, Evelyn has decided to file for divorce and move on with her life," her lawyer, Michael B. Gilden, said in a statement.

Lozada was left with a 3-inch cut on her forehead after Johnson allegedly head butted her during an argument outside their Miami area home on Saturday. Police say the couple, who wed on July 4, was arguing about a receipt for condoms Lozada found in their car.

“She alleges he leaned over and head-butted her. He says she leaned towards him and that they butted heads. Needless to say she has a good laceration on her forehead,” said Capt. Dale Engle.

Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, was arrested for misdemeanor domestic battery after Lozada called 911 from a neighbor’s house. Just hours after his release from jail on Sunday, the Miami Dolphins announced they cut Johnson from the team. On Monday, VH1 announced Johnson and Lozada’s upcoming reality show ‘Ev and Ocho’ has been canceled “due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations.”

Lozada released a statement Tuesday saying she is “deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me.” "It is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay, and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well,” she added.

In a statement posted on his website, Johnson apologized for the incident. “I would like to wish Evelyn well and will never say anything bad about her because I truly love her to death," he said. "I will continue to be positive and train hard for another opportunity in the NFL. To all the fans and supporters I have disappointed, you have my sincerest apologies. I will stay positive and get through this tough period in my life."
