Buckingham Palace confirms Prince Philip has been hospitalized in Scotland for treatment of a recurring bladder infection. The Duke of Edinburgh, who has been married to Queen Elizabeth for 65 years, was taken by ambulance from the royal family’s Balmoral estate to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He is expected to remain there for several days. The palace says his hospitalization is simply a “precautionary measure.”
Prince Philip originally suffered a bladder infection in June. He was hospitalized in London for several days and was forced to miss the final day of the Diamond Jubilee celebration. It was the second time in six months the 91-year-old was admitted to the hospital; chest pains over the Christmas holidays prompted doctors to perform heart stint surgery that kept him in the hospital for four days.
The Duke of Edinburgh most recently appeared at the Olympics and attended royal engagements on the Isle of Wright earlier this week. He is set to appear at the Paralympic Games on August 29.
