Marvel Studios says production on Iron Man 3 will be delayed while Robert Downey Jr. recovers from an ankle injury he sustained while filming a stunt this week. The delay is not expected to affect the May 3, 2013 release date.
"Robert Downey Jr. sustained an ankle injury on the set of 'Iron Man 3' in Wilmington, North Carolina while performing a stunt. There will be a short delay in the production schedule while he recuperates,” the studio said in a statement Thursday.
No other details on the 47-year-old’s injury were immediately available. Downey has not commented.
Filming on Iron Man 3 began in May. The star-studded cast includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, Paul Bettany, Jon Favreau and Rebecca Hall.
