Two Louisiana Deputies Killed In Related Shootings

Louisiana state police confirm two sheriff’s deputies were killed and two others were wounded in two related shootings in LaPlace early this morning. The St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Department says five suspects have been arrested. Two of the suspects are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

According to the sheriff’s department, the first shooting occurred in the parking lot of the Bayou Steel Plant where at least two deputies were providing security. The search for the gunman led responding officers to a trailer park where a man opened fire with an assault rifle. Sheriff Mike Tregre described the second shooting as an “ambush.” It is unclear if the assault rifle was also used in the first shooting. Both incidents are still under investigation.

Authorities have not identified the 5 suspects in custody. The dead have been identified as Deputy Jeremy Triche, 28, and Deputy Brandon Neilsen, 34. Deputies Scott Boyington and Jason Triche were wounded. It is unclear if Jeremy and Jason are related.
