American International Group, Inc.AIG-won dismissal of a lawsuit demanding $1 billion

American International Group, Inc

American International Group Inc., accused by rivals of shortchanging state workers’ compensation pools for 35 years, won dismissal of a lawsuit that sought to collect more than $1 billion for the alleged underpayment.

A federal judge in Chicago yesterday dismissed the suit filed in 2007 by the National Council on Compensation Insurance Inc., saying the group lacked standing to sue New York-based AIG on behalf of 600 companies in its National Workers Compensation Reinsurance Pool. A separate lawsuit seeking class-action, or group, status for the insurers will continue, the judge said.
