AP College Football Preseason Top 25: Florida Gators Overwhelming #1, Texas Longhorns Land at #2
The AP college football preseason Top 25 has been released and the Florida Gators already have a lot to live up to after securing 58 of the 60 first-place votes, the largest margin ever handed to a preseason number one.
With Tim Tebow leading their offense and the entire defensive unit led by Brandon Spikes back from their 2008 National Championship squad the Gators are heavy favorites to repeat but with four other SEC schools ranked 13 and higher they’ll have plenty of competition.
The only other school to capture first place votes was the Texas Longhorns who came in at #2 in the AP Top 25. Texas also has some firepower returning with quarterback Colt McCoy looking to get over the disappointment of how last year ended. The Big 12 landed the #3 school as well as the Oklahoma Sooners and Sam Bradshaw look to return to the national championship game for the second straight year.
Perennial preseason favorite USC lands at #4 in the AP Top 25 college football preseason poll and while the Trojans have plenty of firepower there remain plenty of questions after losing Mark Sanchez to the NFL. USC will also have to work through a stronger Pac-Ten with #12 California and #16 Oregon, both aiming to reach the Rose Bowl or national championship game.
The Alabama Crimson Tide round out the Top 5 in the AP poll and while they are eying the SEC Championship in Atlanta they will still have to deal with a difficult SEC West that includes #8 Mississippi and #11 LSU.
