Aetna Inc.,AET- Trying to Penetrate Medicaid managed-care market

Aetna, the Philadelphia region’s second-largest commercial health insurer, is trying to enter the Medicaid managed-care market in southeastern Pennsylvania.

The Connecticut-based health insurer’s Medicaid division, Aetna Better Health, has filed applications with Pennsylvania health and insurance departments demanding a certificate of authority to establish and operate an HMO in 15 counties.

Aetna is looking forward to participate in the state Department of Public Welfare’s Health Choices program, which needs  Medicaid recipients to enroll in managed-care plans that contract with the department to oversee the care of poor and disabled residents covered by Medicaid.
