NFL Week 15: Dallas 38 Atlanta 28
The Dallas Cowboys (9-5) used a scoring burst in the second half to knock off the Atlanta Falcons (7-7) on Saturday night 38-28.
Tony Romo returned to savior status for the Cowboys as he passed for 278 yards and two touchdowns while completing 22 of 29 passes. Both of Romo’s touchdown passes came courtesy of Terrell Owens. The Cowboys’ wide receiver caught a total of five passes for 69 yards, 51 of those yards came on a second quarter touchdown pass from his new favorite quarterback.
The Cowboys jumped to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Romo hit Owens on a 7-yard pass. Their lead was quickly upped to 14-0 when Demarcus Ware picked off Atlanta quarterback Michael Vick and rumbled 41-yards for a touchdown.
Atlanta responded with a 14-point burst of their own top even the score. Vick hit Justin Griffith on a 1-yard touchdown pass early in the second quarter and then found Michael Jenkins on Atlanta’s next possession for a 9-yard touchdown.
Terrell Owens then burned Falcons defensive back DeAngelo Hall for a 51-yard touchdown and Dallas held the lead once more, 21-14.
The offense continued to click in the second quarter for Atlanta as Vick hit Ashley Lelie on an 8-yard touchdown with 11 seconds remaining in the half.
After scoring 21-points in the second quarter Atlanta continued their assault on their first possession of the second half. Vick drove the Falcons 55-yards on seven plays and found Griffith on a 5-yard touchdown pass and Atlanta had their first lead of the game, 28-21.
Martin Gramatica cut the Cowboys deficit to 28-24 when he made a 48-yard field goal.
From that point on the Cowboys turned to Marion Barber III and he delivered. The Dallas running back bullied the Falcons defense and found the endzone on a 9-yard touchdown to take the lead at the end of the third quarter.
Barber then sealed the game with a 3-yard touchdown late in the fourth. He finished with 69-yards on 11 carries.
Michael Vick finished the game with 237 yards passing and four touchdowns. Vick ran eight times for 56 yards.
