U.S. Military Notifies Red Cross of Identities of Terror Suspects Held at Secret Camps

The United States military has reportedly begun to notify the Red Cross of the identities of suspected terrorists currently being held at secret camps in Afghanistan and Iraq, a move that reflects the commitment to greater transparency from President Barack Obama’s administration.

A number of suspected foreign fighters captured in the two countries have been placed in “temporary screening camps” by U.S. special forces and their identities kept confidential so as not to jeopardize tehi counter-terrorism efforts.

While the Pentagon has notified the Red Cross of the identities of those held they have yet to allow access to the detention facilities to meet with those detainees.

The Red Cross has not commented on the recent report, noting that issues concerning detention camps remain confidential.
