Director Tony Scott, Brother Of Ridley Scott, Commits Suicide

Tony Scott, a director and producer whose top films include Top Gun, Beverly Hills Cop II and True Romance, committed suicide over the weekend. Los Angeles authorities say the 68-year-old jumped to his death from the Vincent Thomas Bridge in Los Angeles Harbor around 12:35 p.m. on Sunday. Los Angeles police Lt. Tim Nordquist said several witnesses reported Scott’s jump. A Los Angeles Port Police dive team recovered his body.

Scott, the younger brother of director Ridley Scott, left his black Toyota Prius parked on the bridge with contact information inside. Investigators later recovered a suicide note from his office. Details on the contents of the note have not been disclosed.

In addition to his brother Ridley, Scott is survived by his third wife, actress and model Donna Wilson, and their twin sons. Family spokesman Simon Halls has released a statement saying, “I can confirm that Tony Scott has passed away. The family asks that their privacy is respected at this time.”

Scott’s film credits include Days of Thunder, Crimson Tide, Déjà Vu and Enemy of the State. His most recent work includes The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable. Scott also ran Scott Free Productions with his brother. The company is behind several TV shows and miniseries, including Numb3rs, The Good Wife, The Pillars of the Earth and Labyrinth.
