Roger Federer will be heading into the U.S. Open on a winning note after knocking off Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5 on Sunday to win his third Cincinnati Masters title.
Federer, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, had no problem with Djokovic despite the Serb’s solid play up to the finals. Now Federer appears ready to shoot for his sixth straight U.S. Open title and his 16th Grand Slam singles title.
Federer recently snapped his tie with Pete Sampras for most career singles victories in men’s Grand Slam tennis with his epic victory at the 2009 Wimbledon. He recently captured his first title at the French Open, marking a career Grand Slam for Federer as he has won Wimbledon six times, the U.S. Open five times and the Australian Open three times.
