Phyllis Diller, a comedian whose routines often included jokes about housekeeping and her fictitious husband Fang, passed away Monday at the age of 95. Diller was surrounded by her family when she died in her sleep at her home in Los Angeles.
“She was a true pioneer. She was the first lady of stand-up comedy. She paved the way for everybody. And she conquered television, movies, Broadway, record albums, nightclubs, books, and radio. She did it all. A true pioneer," the comic’s agent Fred Wostbrock tells Entertainment Weekly.
Diller got her start performing at clubs in the 50s. She shot to fame in the 60s when she starred alongside Bob Hope in TV specials and films. Diller went on to appear on TV Shows like “The Jack Paar Show” and “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In.” She also had a short-lived NBC variety show called “The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show.” In later years she made guest appearances on shows like “7th Heaven,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Boston Legal.”
Diller was married twice and had six children. She is survived by two daughters and a son.
