Over the weekend, Winona Judd and her new husband Michael “Cactus” Moser, who plays drums in her back-up band, went for a motorcycle ride, but the joyride soon turned tragic causing Moser to lose one of his legs.
Moser and Judd were riding on separate bikes just outside Hill City when Moser lost control and crashed into oncoming traffic. He hit another vehicle head-on according to witnesses.
Moser’s leg was severed at the scene and he sustained other serious injuries. He was airlifted to a local hospital with Judd by his side, but unfortunately doctors could not save his leg and they were forced to amputate it above the knee yesterday.
He also had to have surgery on his hand which was also injured in the accident.
The driver of the vehicle Moser hit was not injured and refused treatment on the scene.
Judd has tour dates scheduled through December, but has canceled all her shows until the end of August so she can be with her husband as he recovers. Moser will likely be in the hospital for the next several weeks.
Motorcyclists are particularly vulnerable to serious injury or death since they don’t have the protection that car or truck drivers have. Like Moser, some motorcyclist lives can be forever changed by a traffic accident. Not only to they have to struggle with their medical costs but they face a long road to recovery and may become permanently disabled.
Even if a motorcyclist employs safety practices on the road, they can be injured or killed by reckless drivers. An accident attorney is able to get their clients a fair settlement if they are the victims of a clearly negligent driver.
