Renton, WA- An intoxicated man was hit by a drunken driver while arguing with a police officer early Wednesday morning on SW Grady Way.
Police were called to a local gas station after reports of a disturbance. After police arrived that encountered an intoxicated man and asked him to sit on a curb. But the man proceeded to argue with the officers and stepped into the eastbound lanes of SW Grady Way and continued to ignore the officer’s demands that he leave the roadway and get on the sidewalk.
The man remained in the road forcing officers to direct traffic around him. One officer again approached the man who then took a fighting stance. Just moments later, the driver of a vehicle crashed into the man, narrowly missing the officer.
The woman behind the wheel appeared to be intoxicated. She refused to submit to field sobriety tests. However she had blood drawn at the scene, but the results have not been made public.
She was arrested for suspicion of DUI vehicular assault.
The man was taken to a local hospital with head trauma, but his injuries aren’t life-threatening.
A DUI alone has severe consequences, but the addition of assault can end up landing a person in jail. Facing a DUI without representation is unwise especially when a DUI attorney can offer a number of defense strategies that can stop a conviction or allow the accused to plea to a lesser charge.
