New York City authorities say a deadly shooting outside the Empire State building this morning does not appear to be terror related. The gunman, who was shot and killed at the scene by police, has not been identified, but law enforcement sources say he is believed to be a former store worker who was recently fired.
The shooting happened around 9 a.m. at 34th street and Fifth Avenue. Witnesses say the gunman randomly shot at bystanders. At least one person was killed and 9 others were shot. The conditions of the wounded is unclear. No other details were immediately available.
The incident comes a month after a shooting at a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado left 12 people dead and 58 others wounded. The suspect, 24-year-old James Holmes, has been charged with 24 counts of first degree murder and 116 counts of attempted murder.
