New York, NY- Earlier this week, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes finalized their divorce, but vowed to keep the settlement details confidential. Now a source close to the matter spilled the beans to none other than TMZ.
Holmes filed for divorce earlier this summer seeking sole custody of their 6 year-old daughter Suri, a move that many though would initiate a very ugly a public battle bringing Cruise’s affliation with Scientology to the forefront. But Holmes managed to get what she wanted without a fight.
A source with knowledge of the case told TMZ that Katie did not receive a lump sum nor was she awarded any spousal support, which is consistent with their pre-nuptial agreement and locked her out of his $250 million net worth.
Holmes however was awarded $400,000 a year in child support. He will have to make these payments every year until Suri turns 18. Tom will also have to pay Suri’s expenses including medical, dental, and insurance, along with educational costs including college.
Holmes’ was more concerned with Suri’s upbringing than the money and the settlement reflect this. Both Tom and Katie agreed that Suri will not attend a boarding school, Scientologist or otherwise, now through high school.
Holmes was able to negotiate a quick divorce thanks to the helpful advice of her divorce attorney and friends. And she got everything she wanted; to end her marriage and keep custody of her daughter, proof that she isn’t a gold digger.
