Iran to Continue Co-operation with UN’s Nuclear Agency to Ensure Compliance

Iran will reportedly continue to co-operate with the United Nations nuclear agency, the International Atomic Energy Agency, allowing inspectors access to its nuclear facility at Arak to further ensure the country’s compliance with the IAEA’s regulations.

While the IAEA has not commented on its activities inside Iran the head of the agency, Mohammed ElBaradei, is due to publish a report about the county’s nuclear program in the coming days.

Iran has always insisted their nuclear development was intended for civilian purposes but Western nations have long suspected the country was pursuing nuclear weapons. Those suspicions have led to sanctions targeting Iran but the country’s leaders have dismissed those sanctions, saying sanctions will not deter them from pursuing their right to develop nuclear energy.

Further sanctions against Iran could be a topic discussed at September’s UN Security Council meeting.
