Thousands of Brazilians living in a shanty town outside the city of Sao Paulo have clashed with police after officers attempted to carry out eviction orders.
Many of the residents living in the Capao Redondo slum attempted to block police with barricades of tires and cars. In many instances those barricades were set afire to further deter the police but many of the wooden homes located near the barricades caught fire and threaten the surrounding homes.
Police were trying to end a struggle to move the residents who have illegally occupied the land for the last two years.
There have been no reports of deaths but one person has been injured and at least two arrested.
