The Columbus Blue Jackets (12-17-3) jumped to a 3-0 first period lead and held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings (19-9-4) 4-3. Sergei Federov scored two goals and added an assist for the Blue Jackets while Rick Nash added a goal and an assist and David Vyborny assisted on three goals for Columbus. Robert Lang scored a pair of goals for the Red Wings while Daniel Cleary and Jason Williams each had two assists.
The Anaheim Ducks (26-4-6) exploded for three goals in the third period to top the Calgary Flames (16-12-3) 4-1. The Flames got on the board first with a goal from Daymond Langkow in the second minute of the first period. From that point on Ducks goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere shut the Flames out. Andy McDonald evened the score in the closing seconds of the first period and Samuel Pahlsson gave the Ducks the decider in the third period.
