Miami Heat forward Michael Beasley has reportedly entered a Houston rehab center to deal with possible problems with substance abuse and psychological issues.
Reports surrounding possible substance abuse surfaced following a posting made by Beasley to his Twitter account. That posting showed an image of a new tattoo across his shoulders but also captured an image of what appeared to be a small plastic bag on a table he was near.
Beasley ran into some problems with the NBA prior to the start of his rookie season when he was involved in an incident with Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur at the Rookie Transition Program. In that incident Chalmers and Arthur were found in a room with two women, a direct violation of the NBA’s policy for the event.
According to security at the resort where the symposium was being held the room had a strong scent of marijuana but no drugs or paraphernalia was found. Beasley eventually acknowledged that he had been involved in the incident but did not cooperate with the league’s investigation into the matter.
During his rookie season Beasley averaged 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds for the Heat.
