NFL Preseason Schedule Monday Night Football: Mark Sanchez Leads NY Jets Against Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens

The NFL preseason kicked off with high expectations for a pair of heavily touted rookie quarterbacks and after Saturday night’s performance against the Cleveland Browns it appears the Detroit Lions might not be ready to let Matt Stafford take the reigns as the club’s quarterback. With Stafford likely on the shelf the focus shifts to Mark Sanchez and Monday night could determine whether or not the rookie leads the New York Jets into the 2009 NFL season but it certainly won’t be easy as he has to face the Baltimore Ravens.

Sanchez was 3 of 4 for 88 yards in his professional debut last week against the St. Louis Rams but he might not find things as easy on Monday as the Ravens defense is certainly stronger than what the USC standout faced in his first game. Shonne Greene could also be in for a shock as the Iowa running back will find the Ravens defensive line a bit different than the one he collected 45 yards against.

Baltimore is coming of an impressive showing against the Washington Redskins in which they cruised to a 23-0 victory. The Ravens defense allowed just 196 total yards and forced a pair of turnovers while the offense shredded the Washington secondary for 399 yards. Joe Flacco was 9 of 15 for 103 yards while rookie Troy Smith debuted with a 14 of 30, 200-yard and 1 TD night.

Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
