3 Dead In Shooting At New Jersey Supermarket

An early morning shooting at a New Jersey supermarket left three people, including the gunman, dead. Authorities say the gunman was a 23-year-old male employee of Pathmark grocery store in Old Bridge. He is believed to be a former U.S. Marine who may have struggled with mental illness. No other details on the shooter were immediately available.

Police say the man opened fire in Pathmark with an Ak-47 and a handgun after arguing with coworkers around 3:30 a.m. The guns were apparently stashed in his car. Employees locked all entrances to building when the man initially left, but he shot out windows and re-entered the building shortly before 4 a.m. He shot and killed an 18-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man before killing himself.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan said it appears the gunman did not target any particular person. Pathmark was set to open at 6 a.m., so no customers were inside at the time of the shooting.
