Brian Rolston scored his 16th goal of the season and added an assist and Todd White had a pair of assists as the Minnesota Wild (17-14-2) beat the Vancouver Canucks (17-16-1) 5-2. Pavol Demitra put the Wild on the board early with a goal 1:47 into the first period. Trevor Linden cut the Wild lead to 2-1 in the second period but the Wild scored twice more befor the Canucks could find the back of the net again.
The Boston Bruins (16-13-2) scored three goals in the first period and two goals in the second and third to rout the Ottawa Senators (17-17-1) 7-2. Marco Sturm recorded a hat-trick for the Bruins while Patrice Bergeron assisted on five goals. Marc Savard contributed two goals and two assists in the Bruins win.
Gary Roberts had two goals and Jozef Stumpel had four assists as the Florida Panthers (12-18-6) pounded the Toronto Maple Leafs (16-14-5) 7-3. Johnny Pohl had two assists for the Maple Leafs. Toronto actually jumped on the board first with a goal from Jeff O’Neill but the Panthers then rattled off seven straight goals.
The Tampa Bay Lightning (15-17-2) held a 5-2 lead after two periods and held on to beat the Washington Capitals (15-11-7) 5-4. Martin St. Louis scored a pair of goals giving him 22 on the season and Vincent Lecavalier scored his 19th goal of the year and added two assists for the Lightning. Flipa Kuba had a goal and two assists as well for Tampa. Alexander Ovechkin scored his 22nd goal of the year and added an assist for Washington
Marian Hossa scored two short handed goals to give him 24 on the year and the Atlanta Thrashers (19-10-6) beat the New Jersey Devils (18-12-3) 4-3 in a game that went to a shootout. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Thrashers. Hossa opened the scoring for the Thrashers in the first period and scored the equalizer in the third to force overtime. In the shootout Slava Kozlov scored and Hossa iced the contest after Kari Lehtonen stoned the Devils first two attempts.
Justin Williams scored his 15th goal and Anton Babchuk scored his first as the Carolina Hurricanes (17-14-4) beat the Philadelphia Flyers (8-21-4) 2-1. Cam Ward stopped 29 shots for the Hurricanes while Antero Niittymaki stopped 40 shots for the Flyers. Simon Gagne scord his 17th goal of the year in the Philadelphia loss.
The St. Louis Blues (8-19-6) finally ended their 11-game winless streak with their 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins (15-13-5). Doug Weight scored a goal and an assist for the Blues while Dan Hinote did the same. Evgeni Malkin scored his 17th goal of the season for the Penguins.
The New York Islanders (17-12-3) scored three goals in the second period to lift them past the New York Rangers (18-13-4) 4-3. Jason Blake recorded a hat-trick for the Islanders and Tom Poti had a pair of assists. Jaromir Jagr had two goals and an assist while Brendan Shanahan scored a goal and added two assists for the Rangers.
The Montreal Canadiens (20-8-5) surrendered a goal :34 seconds into the first period but answered with three goals of their own in the opening period and went on to beat the Buffalo Sabres (24-7-2) 5-2. Christopher Higgins scored two goals and Sergei Samsonov had a pair of assists in the win. Cristobal Huet stopped 42 of the 44 shots he faced for Montreal.
Andrew Brunette recorded a hat-trick and Paul Stastny scored a goal and had three assists as the Colorado Avalanche (17-15-2) won a wild one over the Edmonton Oilers (17-14-2) 7-6. Th eOilers jumped to a 2-0 and finished the first period ahead 3-2, Colorado then scored three goals in the second to take a 5-3 lead, Edmonton cut the lead to 5-4 but Colorado jumped back to 6-4, Edmonton rattled off two more goals to tie the score 6-6, and Colorado finally put the game away with a goal from Brett McLean. Petr Sykora scored two goals for the Oilers.
Tony Amonte scored a goal and handed out an assist and Jarome Iginla added a pair of assists as the Calgary Flames (17-12-3) beat the Los Angeles Kings (12-18-5) 5-3. Daymond Langkow found the back of the net for the Flames; it was his 12th goal of the year. Anze Kopitar scored two goals for the Kings.
