MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, has dropped Miss Teen USA Katie Blair as a spokesperson on underage drinking. A spokeswoman for the organization said "We do not feel, at this time, that Ms. Blair can be an effective spokesperson on underage drinking and will not ask her to represent MADD in future initiatives.”
The 18-year-old beauty pageant winner announced after being crowned Miss Teen USA “I want to further my career in the fashion industry and continue to do work with disabled children.” Instead she worked on the New York bar circuit with Miss USA Tara Conner.
Blair, from Billing, Montana, and Miss USA Tara Conner, from Russell Springs, Kentucky had been ubiquitous fixtures inside New York clubs and bars since winning their crowns and taking up residency in Trump Tower.
On Tuesday Donald Trump announced that Tara Conner would be allowed to retain her title as Miss USA provided she enter an alcohol rehab center. In speaking to reporters about the situation surround Conner, Trump said “It's a story that has happened many times before to many women and many men who came to the Big Apple. They wanted their slice of the Big Apple and they found out it wasn't so easy.”
A spokeswoman for the Miss Universe Organization said that the organization respected “MADD’s decision as much as we respect their work. We look forward to working with them in the future.”
