Viewers tuning in to the Kennedy Center Honors on December 26 will find one act missing from the tribute to the honorees. After flubbing her rendition of the Dolly Parton classic “9 to 5” Jessica Simpson has asked to have her homage yanked from the telecast.
Unable to remember the words despite cue cards displaying the lyrics, Simpson was overcome with nerves and took flight during the taping of the ceremony. Simpson later asked for and was granted a second chance to perform.
Not satisfied with the way things turned out, Simpson asked that her piece hit the cutting room floor. The show’s producer, George Steven Jr. obliged stating, “We appreciate the time and energy Ms. Simpson put into this event and respect the high standards she has for herself and that of the Kennedy Center Honors.”
A spokeswoman for Simpson said of the decision “She really wasn't happy with her performance and she did want it to be perfect for Dolly, who she idolizes.”
Other honorees at the Kennedy Center Honors are Andrew Lloyd Webber, Zubin Mehta, Smokey Robinson and Steven Spielberg.
