Almost two months after suffering a heart attack, actor Michael Clarke Duncan has died. Duncan passed away Monday at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles. The 54-year-old had been receiving treatment at the hospital ever since his July 13 heart attack. His fiancé, former Apprentice star Omarosa Manigault, saved his life by performing CPR. He spent the first three weeks of his hospitalization in intensive care.
"Manigault is grateful for all of your prayers and asks for privacy at this time. Celebrations of his life, both private and public, will be announced at a later date,” Duncan’s rep said in a statement Monday.
Manigault later issued her own statement to RadarOnline.com. "I am devastated. He was the love of my life,” she said.
Duncan is perhaps best known for playing death row inmate John Coffey in the 1999 film The Green Mile. His performance earned him an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. Duncan’s other credits include Planet of the Apes, The Whole Nine Yards, Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins and Kung Fu Panda.
"I am terribly saddened at the loss of Big Mike. He was the treasure we all discovered on the set of The Green Mile. He was magic. He was a big love of man and his passing leaves us stunned,” Tom Hanks said in a statement.
"I'm devastated at the loss of Michael Clarke Duncan, one of the finest people I've ever had the privilege to work with or know. Michael was the gentlest of souls—an exemplar of decency, integrity and kindness. The sadness I feel is inexpressible," Green Mile director Frank Darabont said.
In addition to Manigault, Duncan is survived by his mother and sister.
