NFL Week 16 Thursday Night: Green Bay 9 Minnesota 7
In a game that featured almost no offense the Green Bay Packers (7-8) kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a 9-7 win over the Minnesota Vikings (6-9).
The Packers relied on the leg of Dave Rayner to win what could be Bret Favre’s last game at Lambeau Field. Rayner kicked a field goal in the first quarter and then hit a 44-yarder just before half to give the Packers as 6-0 lead at the break.
Minnesota got on the board in the third quarter when Fred Smoot intercepted Brett Favre and returned it 47-yards for a touchdown.
With 1:34 remaining in the game Rayner kicked the 44-yard game-winner.
Favre finished with 285 yards passing, completing 26-50 attempts. The Packers offense relied on Favre’s arm as they could only manage 46 yards on the ground.
In his first start for Minnesota quarterback Tarvaris Jackson completed 10-20 passes for 50 yards. Jackson also threw an interception. The Vikings running game totaled 77 yards. The Minnesota offense converted just 2-14 third down opportunities and had three first downs in the game.
