Bono will become an honorary knight of the British empire shortly after the New Year. The U2 frontman will be receiving the title for his involvement in world affairs and bringing the economic issues of Africa to the forefront of the global mindset.
The rocker turned political activist has concentrated his efforts on campaigning for aid relief in Africa. Bono has spoken before the United Nations and held meetings with world leaders concerning the importance of Western assistance in African matters.
While the 46-year-old Dubliner will become a knight he will not be using the title “Sir.” That title is reserved for nationals of Britain or the Commonwealth of former British colonies.
Speaking about the efforts of Bono, whose real name is Paul Hewson, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said “I know as well how knowledgeable you are about the problems we face and how determined you are to do all you can to help overcome them. You have tirelessly used your voice to speak up for Africa.”
