James Brown died at an Atlanta hospital early Monday after suffering congestive heart failure. The “Godfather of Soul” had been admitted to Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Saturday with severe pneumonia. He was 73-years-old.
Brown was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, the same year he was given a Grammy for lifetime achievement.
The “hardest working man in show business” influenced just about every genre of music and helped shape the careers of artists from Public Enemy to Michael Jackson.
He had been scheduled to perform at the New Years celebration in New York at Times Square.
