NHL Scores from Dec. 26; Chris Drury, David Vyborny, Martin Brodeur, and Rick DiPietro lead their teams to wins.

The Buffalo Sabres (26-7-3) scored six goals in the first period and cruised to a 6-3 win over the Washington Capitals (16-13-7). Chris Drury scored a pair of goals and added two assists while Ales Kotalik scored a goal and dished out two assists in the Buffalo win. Alexander Ovechkin scored his 24th goal of the season for the Capitals.
 
Denis Arkhipov scored a first period goal and Martin LaPointe scored the go-ahead goal in the second period as the Chicago Blackhawks (16-15-5) beat the Dallas Stars (23-14-0) 2-1. Both Chicago goals came on the power play. Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 21 shots in goal for the Blackhawks.
 
The Carolina Hurricanes (20-14-4) scored three goals in the third period to beat the Florida Panthers (13-19-7) 4-2. Rod Brind’Amour gave the Hurricanes the lead 2-1 and Scott Walker pushed the lead to 3-1 in the third. Nathan Horton scored both goals for the Panthers.
 
Jim Slater scored the game-winner with 8 seconds remaining in the third period to give the Atlanta Thrashers (22-10-6) a 2-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning (17-18-2). Martin St. Louis gave the Lightning the lead in the first period with a shorthanded goal but Slava Kozlov tied the game in the second period. Kari Lehtonen stopped 24 shots in goal for Atlanta who has now won four straight.
 
David Vyborny scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets (14-19-3) past the Boston Bruins (18-13-3) 5-4. Vyborny also added an assist while Sergei Federov finished with two goals of his own. Federov’s second goal came with 23 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime.
 
Martin Brodeur stopped all 26 shots he faced as the New Jersey Devils (20-13-3) shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins (15-14-6) 3-0. The Devils got their goals from Travis Zajac in the second period and Jay Pandolfo and Brian Gionta in the third period. Pittsburgh suffered their fourth straight loss.
 
Rick DiPietro locked up his third home shutout of the year as he stopped all 28 shots on goal and the NY Islanders (19-13-3) blanked the NY Rangers (18-16-4) 2-0. Arron Asham scored in the second period for the Islanders and Jason Blank pushed the lead to 2-0 in the third period.
 
Jeff O’Neill scored with 2:18 remaining in the third period to give the Toronto Maple Leafs (17-16-5) a 4-3 win over the Minnesota Wild (18-16-2). Johnny Pohl scored a penalty shot for the Leafs that tied the score 2-2 in the second period. Alexander Steen gave the Leafs a 3-2 lead but Brian Rolston scored the equalizer for the Wild mid-way through the third. O’Neill then scored the go-ahead goal for Toronto.

Alexander Radulov scored the deciding goal in the shout out as the Nashville Predators (25-9-3) beat the St. Louis Blues (10-19-7) 3-2. Paul Kariya scored a goal and an assist for Nashville while Chris Mason stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced in goal. Martin Erat added two assists for the Predators.
 
Daniel Sedin scored two goals and Roberto Luongo stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced as the Vancouver Canucks (18-18-1) beat the Calgary Flames (17-14-3) 3-1. Trevor Linden gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead in the second period. David Moss scored the only goal for Calgary.
 
Sean Avery scored the tying goal with 38 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime and the Los Angeles Kings (13-20-5) beat the Phoenix Coyotes (13-20-2) 4-3 in a shoot out. Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown scored for the Kings in the shoot out. Derek Armstrong and Rob Blake scored two of the three goals in the third period for the Kings .
 
Corey Perry scored mid-way through the third period to give the Anaheim Ducks (28-5-6) a 4-3 win over the San Jose Sharks (25-12-0). Ryan Shannon had two assists for the Ducks in the win. San Jose had a 2-1 lead after the first period with goals from Christian Ehrhoff and Patrick Marleau.
