Beatles guitarist George Harrison gave his sister Louise a signed copy of his bands first U.S. release on Capitol Records, “Meet the Beatles”, in 1964. Forty-two years later the autographed album cover fetched $115,000 at auction, setting a record price for a signed album cover of the band.
The bidding for the historic piece of nostalgia began at $25,000 and quickly jumped as fans and collectors continued to increase their offers. By the time the auction ended the price had elevated to $115,000 and closed at $115,228.82 after commission fees.
Louise was bestowed the album with each of the Beatles writing their own personal inscription. George wrote to his sister “To Lou with love from ‘Brother’!!,” John Lennon wrote “To Lou many love from John Lennon X.” Both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr added their names with a quick message as well.
The album was put up for sale by Louisa.
