Suicide Bombing Near Pakistani-Afghan Border Leaves at least 18 Dead

A suicide bomber detonated a large explosive at a tribal police checkpoint near the Pakistani-Afghan border, killing at least 18 people and leaving several more injured.

The attack occurred at the Torkham border crossing in Pakistan’s Khyber Agency, a region that connects the North West Frontier Province to Afghanistan. The border post is the main crossing for traffic to and from Afghanistan as the Khyber Pass acts as the main trading route for Islamabad and Peshawar with Kabul.

Many suspect the latest attack is in retaliation for a bombing that killed Pakistan’s top Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud earlier this month.
