The Buffalo Sabres (27-7-3) scored three goals in the second period and went on to beat the Carolina Hurricanes (20-15-4) 4-1 and sweep the season series. Ryan Miller stopped 29 shots in goal and the Sabres got goals from Jason Pominville, Chris Drury, Thomas Vanek, and Ales Kotalik in the win. Craig Adams scored the only goal for Carolina.
Trailing 4-3 in the third period, the Detroit Red Wings (23-9-5) rallied for four goals and beat the Columbus Blue Jackets (14-20-3) 7-4. The four goals came in a space of seven minutes for Detroit with Pavel Datsyuk scoring a pair. Daniel Cleary recorded a hat-trick for the Red Wings with two goals in the first period and another in the third. Robert Lang had three assists for Detroit.
The Philadelphia Flyers (9-24-4) jumped to a 4-1 lead and held on to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning (17-19-2) 4-3. Simon Gagne scored a pair of goals for the Flyers and Peter Forsberg had three assists in the win. The Flyers won despite being out-shot 45-26 on the night. Joni Pitkinen had two assists for Philadelphia who snapped a team record 10-game losing streak.
Derek Armstrong had three assists and Alexander Frolov had a goal and two assists as the Los Angeles Kings (14-20-5) came from behind to beat the Edmonton Oilers (18-16-2) 7-4. The Kings trailed 4-2 in the second period but scored five unanswered goals to get the win. Lubimor Visnovsky scored for the Kings and added an assist. The Oilers scored three power play goals and a shorthanded goal in the game. The Kings racked up 37 minutes in penalties.
Yanic Perreault scored with 41 seconds remaining in the third period to lift the Phoenix Coyotes (14-20-2) past the San Jose Sharks (25-13-0) 3-2. The Coyotes had a 2-0 lead but surrendered two goals in the second period to even the scoring. Shane Doan and Oleg Saprykin each had a goal and an assist in the Coyotes win. Joe Thorton scored a goal and an assist for the Sharks.
