Steve Irwin will have his likeness created into the form of a talking doll according to reports. Wild Republic, a division of K&M International, has been given the approval to market and distribute the doll by Irwin’s family and Australia Zoo.
The doll will make its debut at the International Toy Fair in New York from February 11-14.
Kim Hammeren, director of marketing and sales for K&M, said “With the Irwin family, the Australia Zoo, and Steve's personal friends, we are working to represent the excitement and passion that Steve brought to children's education and environmental awareness through products that reflect that same fun and excitement.”
The khaki clad doll will spout out some of the more memorable phrases that Irwin popularized and is expected to retail for $22.
Best known as the “Crocodile Hunter”, Irwin was killed on September 4 when a stingray’s barb pierced his heart while he was filming underwater footage. The Australian icon was just 44-years-old when he passed away.
Irwin left behind his wife, Terri; daughter, Bindi; and son Bob.
In a statement released by Bindi, the 8-year-old said “We all know that Daddy had an important job. He was working to change the world so everyone would love wildlife like he did. Now it's our turn to help him.”
