Washington, D.C. - Chris Cooley, former tight-end for the Washington Redskins and a fan favorite is getting a divorce from his wife Christy Ogelvee.
The past month has been tumultuous for Cooley; he was let go from the Redskins on August 28th, according to ESPN. And then he and his wife filed for divorce on August 29th.
Christy and Chris met on the field. He was a pro-ball and she was cheerleader. Their relationship cost Christy her job but she gained because she married a pro-athlete. The couple appeared to be very much in love and used their blog to express that.
But love doesn’t always last and people soon find themselves in need of a divorce attorney. The couple reportedly split in January and waited to officially file until now. Apparently, Chris and Christy spent the time of their split working on a divorce settlement.
In a statement, Ogelvee’s attorney said, “Both Christy and Chris worked hard to be reasonable with each other so they could settle this matter without litigation. They are both to be credited for reaching a resolution that permits their private lives to remain private.”
They did not have a prenuptial, although it is advisable for pro-athletes, celebrities and wealthy people in general.
NFL players have had a tough off-season, numerous players have been arrested for intoxicated driving; Miami Dolphins’ Chad Johnson was busted for battery and also got cut and divorced in a matter of days. Hopefully, the NFL will have a better playing season.
