Argentine Farmers Resume Strike Over Tax on Soy Bean Exports

Argentine farmers have opted to resume strikes following President Cristina Fernandez’s refusal to lower the 35% tax imposed on soy bean exports.

Farmers will not sell livestock and grain for an eight day period during the strike, stating their action is more than a protest. Eduardo Buzzi, president of the Argentine Agrarian Federation, called the strike “a battle cry to defend rural life.”

While the farmers have accused the government of providing a disproportionate amount of aid on cities the government has said the farmers are making large profits on the sale of soy beans and they are simply distributing the wealth fairly.
