Daunte Culpepper Named as Starter for Detroit Lions in Saturday’s Game Against Indianapolis Colts

While Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has insisted the competition for starting quarterback remains wide open he has opted to start Saturday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts with Daunte Culpepper under center.

Culpepper is expected to play into the second quarter, eventually handing the reigns to the NFL’s overall number one pick in the 2009 draft Matt Stafford. Stafford started in the Lions second preseason game against the Cleveland Browns but his struggles left many believing he may need more time before leading the team.

Fortunately for Culpepper and Stafford the Lions will have Calvin Johnson and Bryant Johnson back in the lineup after injuries sidelined the pair of wide receivers. Detroit will also see first-round selection Brandon Pettigrew at the tight end position after he missed time due to injuries.
