The Los Angeles Angels have added starting pitcher Scott Kazmir to their rotation on Friday, dealing a pair of minor league prospects to the Tampa Bay Rays for the left-hander.
Kazmir, who cleared waivers earlier this month, posted an 8-7 mark with a 5.92 ERA for the Rays but the decision to move the pitcher was based largely on his salary. He was making $6 million for the 2009 season and is scheduled to make $8 million in 2010 and $12 million in 2011.
LA has been trying to bolster their starting rotation down the stretch and were actively pursuing Kazmir prior to the trade deadline.
In exchange for Kazmir the Angels will send minor league lefty Alexander Torres and third baseman Matthew Sweeney.
