On June 4th one of Katie-Lou's friends got into difficulty at the harbour. Katie-Lou went to help and both were swept into the sea by 20 foot waves. Since the accident Katie-Lou, who was the only person seriously injured in the accident and subsequent rescue, has remained in The Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh where she is likely to continue her rehabilation from anoxic brain injury until early 2013.
Following a massive outpouring of support and generosity from friends and family, especially the community of Eyemouth, Katie-Lou's parents have been inundated with offers of assistance in the understanding that many adjustments to the family home will be needed as well as specialist equipment and resources for when Katie-Lou is ready to return home. The focus of the support is now being chanelled through a web site which details Katie-Lou's heroism, keeps well wishers informed of her progress and provides details of fundraising events that have been organised to support Katie-Lou's post hospital rehabilatation.

The site also gives details of fundraising events for Katie-Lou, which have been organised by friends and family both in Eyemouth and in Plymouth where the Maclean family moved from earlier in the year.
Planned fundraising events so far include a Brownies bring and buy sale and an Eyemouth Emergency Services day organised by Norman Richardson, coastguard, who gave CPR to Katie-Lou following her recovery from the sea.
