Longtime “General Hospital” star John Ingle has died at the age of 84. A rep for the show says Ingle passed away on Sunday. The cause of death was not released.
"With great sadness, I share the news of John Ingle's passing. We love him and will miss him. John will always be a part of the #GH family,” General Hospital executive producer Frank Valenti Tweeted Monday.
Ingle’s family also confirmed his death on Facebook. "Father, Husband, Grandan, Great Grandan, Brother, Uncle, Friend, Teacher, Inspirer, Mentor: May You Soar with the Angels. You will forever hold a special place in the deepest corners of our hearts,” the family wrote.
Before launching his acting career, Ingle taught English and acting at two Los Angeles high schools from 1955 until his retirement in 1985. Some of his students reportedly included Nicolas Cage, Richard Dreyfuss, Joanna Gleason and David Schwimmer. Ingle had a handful of film credits, including “Robocop 2,” “Death Becomes Her” and “Batman & Robin.” He is best known for playing Edward Quartermaine on “General Hospital” from 1993 to 2004, and then from 2006 to 2012. Ingle’s other TV credits include “The Golden Girls,” “Night Court,” “Boy Meets World,” “Days of our Lives” and “The Office.”
