President Obama took office in 2008 and the average price for a gallon of regular gas was $1.86 according to
GasPriceWatch.com, a leading web site that tracks daily gas prices in over 15,000 U.S. locations.
Today the U.S. average price for a gallon of regular gas is between $3.85 and $4.49 a gallon, depending on the state. Over twenty U.S. states now have average gas prices of over $4.00 per gallon, which is over 2x higher than when President Obama took office. Washington D.C. has a high per gallon gas price of $5.09 per gallon, which is one of the highest prices in the country. The lowest price for a gallon of gas in Washington D.C. is currently $3.46 a gallon. The national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.79 in the United States.
GasPriceWatch.com revealed that the average U.S. gas price this past Labor Day weekend was the highest it has ever been in the United States. It is estimated that U.S. drivers are losing over a billion dollars a week in cash compared to what they were spending when President Bush left office in 2008.
Consumers can view gas prices from over 150,000 gas stations in over 15,000 U.S. towns and cities at GasPriceWatch.com, and many consumers use the web site to find the
cheapest gas in their local area. Many times fluctuations of over .25 a gallon can be found in the same area, so shopping around for the lowest price can save drivers significant amounts of money when they fill their tanks.
American's are hopeful that whoever wins the upcoming Presidential election that it will result on lower gas prices for consumers in 2013.
