NY Times Reviews: Washington, DC Hotels $89 / night

The Capitol Skline Hotel is the place to be among the Washington DC hotels. With pool parties, good food and a luxurious environment at a rate of $89 a night it is truly a must see.

The New York Times, Ashley Parker raves about The Capitol Skyline hotel as being one of most exciting, fun and surprisingly best deals of the luxury line of Washington, DC hotels.  With rooms starting at just $89 a night this Washington DC Hotel is a must see.

In Ashley Parker review of The Capitol Skyline hotel she concludes that if you are visiting our nation’s capitol and like pool parties, great food and a luxurious hotel environment the Capitol Skyline hotel is one of the Washington DC hotels you should check out.  The article is below:

The Capitol Skyline Hotel looks like somewhere the Jetsons might have vacationed — a giant concrete submarine headed back to the future. The 203-room building is on its third life: originally designed in the early 1960s by the Miami Beach architecture impresario Morris Lapidus as the Skyline Inn, the hotel later became a Best Western and was bought in 2001 by the Rubell family, who have been slowly renovating it ever since. The result? A playful modernist lobby that includes two Frank Gehry twisted wood chairs, and a large pool out in back, by far the hotel’s biggest summertime attraction, with its neon pink and orange Adirondack chairs and South Beach vibe.

THE LOCATION

In the shadow of both the Capitol and the new Nationals ballpark, the Capitol Skyline is a fish-out-of-water building in Washington’s southwest quadrant. The hotel, just off a freeway ramp, rises up among vacant lots and brand new luxury condos. It’s a five-minute walk to the stadium and the Metro, which is good thing; if you’re planning on doing anything other than taking in a baseball game, you’re going to need to walk or take the Metro or a taxi to another part of town.

ROOM SERVICE

The hotel doesn’t offer room service, but you can order takeout from the lobby restaurant, a small place (with surprisingly good food) that resembles a cafeteria smartly dressed up with Asian and Ikeaesque touches. In the mornings, the hotel offers a $12.73-per-person buffet breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m.

THE BOTTOM LINE

In some ways, the Capitol Skyline almost seems like a luxury budget hotel — a little worn, a little out of the way, but a hodgepodge of a place to meet fun people or crash for a few days at a good rate (doubles start at $109).
