Fiesta Bowl: Boise State Broncos Stun the Oklahoma Sooners 43-42 in Overtime.

In an amazing turn of events the #9 Boise State Broncos (13-0) shocked the #7 Oklahoma Sooners (11-3) 43-42 in overtime and ended their perfect season at 13-0.

With 1:26 remaining in the fourth quarter Oklahoma scored on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Paul Thompson to Quentin Chaney to pull the Sooners to within two points of the Broncos. Oklahoma then converted their two-point attempt and tied the score at 28-28.

On their first play after the kick off Jared Zabransky threw an interception to Oklahoma’s Marcus Walker and the Sooners defender returned the pick 34-yards for a touchdown and what seemed to be a 35-28 win.

It wasn’t over.

Zabransky redeemed himself with a game tying drive that was capped by a 50-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-18. With time running out Zabransky hit Broncos receiver Drisan James at the Oklahoma 35-yard-line. Instead of stretching for the first down James pitched the ball to Jerard Rabb who sprinted into the end zone and evened the score with 7 seconds remaining in the game.

On their first play from scrimmage in overtime Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson busted out for a 25-yard touchdown run and the Sooners kicked the extra-point for a 42-35 advantage.

Boise State wasn’t ready to concede to their BCS foe as they managed to score on a fourth down pass from Vinny Perretta to Derek Schouman and the Broncos pulled to within one point. Instead of attempting a game-tying extra-point Boise State opted for a game-winning two-point attempt. When Zabransky sold Oklahoma defenders on a fake pass attempt he handed off to Ian Johnson who ran to the corner of the end zone and gave the Broncos and improbable 43-42 win in the Fiesta Bowl.

Zabransky finished the game with 263-yards passing and three touchdowns while Johnson rushed for 100-yards on 24 carries.
