NBA Scores from Jan. 1; Kevin Garnett and Tony Allen lead their teams to wins
Kevin Garnett scored 32 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves (14-15) used a fourth quarter burst to beat the Charlotte Bobcats (9-22) 102-96. Ricky Davis added 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists while Mark Blount finished with 21 points and 7 rebounds in the win. Minnesota trailed by 10 points heading into the fourth quarter but outscored the Bobcats 34-18 in the final frame to earn the win. Matt Carroll had 23 points for the Bobcats and Emeka Okafor had 12 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.
Tony Allen scored 22 points and had 8 rebounds and Ryan Gomes had 18 points and 10 rebounds in the Boston Celtics (11-19) win over the Portland Trail Blazers (13-19) 89-81. Boston held Portland to just 14 points in the fourth quarter. Brandon Roy led the Trail Blazers with 18 points while Zach Randolph finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds.
