Saddam Hussein Execution Video Leads to Arrest

The individual who is believed to have recorded the Saddam Hussein execution on a cell phone camera has been arrested by Iraqi officials. It has been reported that the man being investigated was “an official who supervised the execution”, that being said by an adviser to Iraq’s Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.

Hours after the Hussein hanging the video appeared on Al-Jazeera television. The video shows the last moments of Saddam’s life and culminates in his fall through the gallows floor.

It was believed that all cell phones had been confiscated before the Hussein execution yet the video taken was clearly that of such a device. While the Hussein video sparked mixed emotions amongst viewers, the Iraqi government was more concerned with the negative impact it had on their ability to carry out the execution in a neutral manner.
