In a new interview on the Today show, Kerri Walsh Jennings revealed she was 5 weeks pregnant when she won gold at the London Olympics.
“When I was throwing my body around fearlessly and going for gold for our country, I was pregnant,” she told Matt Lauer. “Today I’m 11 weeks pregnant.”
The baby is due on April 9 and will be the third child for the volleyball star and her husband of 7 years, Casey Jennings. The couple is already parents to sons Joseph, 3, and Sundance, 2.
Walsh and Jennings said they assumed it would take time to conceive, so they started trying about a month before the London Games. Walsh, 34, conceived right away and discovered her pregnancy during the Olympics.
“I’m a pretty happy girl and I was unreasonably moody,” Walsh said of her symptoms. “I thought it could have been the stress of the games and travel kind of throws your schedule off, but I knew. At some point, you’re late and then you start feeling something. And I definitely started feeling something in London.”
“It's so exciting. It feels so great to tell people,” she told Lauer.
“This little one is kicking my butt! The first two were pretty easy, but with this one, I’m sick every day,” Walsh added. “I’ve got some awesome acne. I just feel different.”
